Lagos Governor Urges Recognition Of Local Council Areas And State Policing

… Sanwo-Olu Appeals For Enhanced Local Governance And Security

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on the National Assembly to formally acknowledge 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and grant approval for state-controlled police forces.

This appeal aims to strengthen local administration and bolster security measures across the state, addressing long-standing governance and safety challenges.

Sanwo-Olu argued that recognizing the LCDAs would enhance grassroots development by enabling more efficient resource allocation and service delivery.

He stressed that these councils, already operational, require legal backing to maximize their potential in addressing community needs.

The governor highlighted the importance of decentralized governance in a rapidly growing state like Lagos, where local authorities play a critical role in urban planning and infrastructure development.

On security, Sanwo-Olu advocated for state police, citing the need for localized law enforcement to tackle crime more effectively.

He emphasized that a state-managed police force would be better equipped to understand and address regional security issues, complementing federal efforts.

The governor urged lawmakers to prioritize these reforms to empower states and foster sustainable development.
