SGF Akume Praises Afreximbank Chief Oramah for Economic Patriotism

…Tinubu Honouree Credited With Rescuing Nigeria’s Economy During Critical Period

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has lauded Afreximbank President, Professor Benedict Oramah for his pivotal role in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy during its most challenging financial periods.

During a courtesy visit by Afreximbank executives in Abuja on Wednesday, Akume revealed how Oramah’s intervention averted a potential economic crisis: “When other institutions rejected Nigeria for hitting credit limits, Prof. Oramah restructured our debts and extended new facilities – this saved our import-dependent economy.”

The SGF particularly commended Oramah’s legacy projects including the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja, now ranked among Africa’s top hospitals, and the continental trade hub which positions Nigeria as Africa’s export nerve center.

Mrs. Oluranti Doherty, Afreximbank’s Export Development MD, acknowledged the Nigerian government’s support in actualizing these projects, while confirming the smooth transition to new leadership under George Elombi following Oramah’s decade of transformative service.

The meeting highlighted President Tinubu’s recent conferment of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) on Oramah, recognizing his contributions that extended beyond banking into healthcare infrastructure development.
